Let's build a website right now 😁. So, you are probably thinking of starting your own website right now because you have an interest in that niche and you may also want to make some money out of it too. Almost everyone has tried running a website at one point in time or another.
Some people fail because they don't really understand how websites work, while some really know what they are doing, some are lucky with their niche. There are different types of websites, like forums, blogs and business domains. This guide is applicable to any of they type of website you want to work in.
Picking a Niche
This is the first step in building a website, either for money or for pleasure. If you really plan to get visibility to your site from Google search then you have to know about the niche you are working on. To pick a niche, you need to have an interest in it, else you will be unable or find it very difficult to fill it with information. Many people out there may already know of this method, but there are still noobs who are just starting and need information on how to get started. Let's now assume you find it difficult to find a niche, then read this few bullet points on ways to find an interesting niche.
- Favourite television channel
- The type of books you read
- Magazines
- Best section in newspapers you find interesting
- Websites you always want to read
- Discussions you are most fluent in.
Now, let's say you have fond a niche that you are confident you won't abandon within the next few days or weeks or months.
To rank in Google and receive traffic quickly, you have to start small 💁. What I mean by starting small is that depending on the niche you want to work on, there is always a 90% chance that that niche is already saturated, An example is Technology, Entertainment information niche, etc.
I still haven't completely explained the word small that I used above in the previous paragraph. You see, what I mean is starting with a micro-niche inside the main niche (example 1: Tech (niche) consists of cars, bikes, drones, phones, etc. A micro-niche will be Phones. example 2: Phone is a niche, phone screens is a micro-niche). And how can you accomplish this? By using lesser competition keywords. I will further explain this later, for now, let us finish with selecting the niche.
Now, you know what you are interested in, the next step is making a list from your ideas 💭. To do this, just write down all the words you can think of that exists in your niche of choice. I will be using Tech niche as an example throughout this guide. So, I am using "cars. bikes, drones, phone, projector, cases, batteries, earphones, virtual reality box, iPhone"
Go to Google Keyword Planner, use the "Search for keywords using a phrase, website, or category" option. Enter all your ideas list, make sure to separate them using a comma like I did above. Select your target country and ad click on the Get Ideas button.
What we need here are Keyword ideas. You will see the download button to the right of keywords ideas, click on it and download "Excel CSV."
When you have downloaded it, launch it in Excel and use the filter option to view according to they way it pleases you.
Depending on what you the keywords you used, there should be like about 500+ results available in the CSV file. The more the result, the better the niche because there will be more niches available to get into.
Remember that you are starting small, so you have to pick a niche with about 1k to 10k average monthly searches with a low competition. This is a really n especially good method for of finding a niche in Amazon affiliates business.
Now that you have the result, you just have to scroll and pick what suits you most, a niche whereby you can easily think about lots of topics and can actually give the visitors the information they want. Easy as ABC, but we are not done yet 😒.
Given that you now have the niche, enter a search query on Google for that keyword you chose from the Excel file to see what type of websites comes up and the competition you are up against. In my example, I am using Projectors and I will use "LCD Projectors" to begin with the website because it has 1k - 10k average monthly searches and 1 competition. The high the number
Now I will go over to google to search for LCD projectors. Ops! Looks like I will never beat the guys on the first page of google search, those websites are authority sites.
Maybe I should then search for "best LCD projectors" Looks even harder!
Did you see those websites in the video? It is very hard to beat those websites in google's first-page result. What I am trying to explain here is that you have to research every niche before jumping into them. Some niche looks simple, but the keyword is very difficult.
You have to use the filter option in Excel to search for keywords with high competition that averages 1,000 - 10,000 monthly searches. It is better to set the filter to show result between 100 - 1,000 monthly searches with higher competition and a high bid if you plan on making money in the first few months. What I mean by high competition is that many people are advertising in that niche, which means that if you have AdSense on your website and a visitor clicks on it, you make money. Now high competition like 1 (maximum) would be best for a keyword with less difficulty.
Now, while all my explanation above can be classified under affiliate website startup, you can also use the method above for a normal blog or forum. What you just have to do is pick the smallest micro-niche and keywords where you can get traffic and rank to step by step expansion. The trick is to first deal with the little things before jumping to the bigger competitions. And of course, this paragraph is referring to long term website, not short term. Keep in mind that the same goes for forum websites.
For business pages, I will recommend adding a blog page, where you can use the post to rank your business websites.
Authority sites are almost impossible to outrank, so if you find yourself in this spot, it's better to find another niche (remember that my the niche I selected is just for explanation). The result on the first page of google shows what type of website the niche is about. It may be e-commerce, video, tutorial websites, etc.
1. What you are looking for in those websites that came up are just a few ideas on keywords that you are going to put into keyword planner and generate new ideas again. See the screenshot below.
2. Those are they type of keywords you will be looking for. Depending on your niche, you may find lots of lots of keywords. Here, I have these new keywords that I will put into keyword planner to get new keyword ideas;
"Home cinema projector, wireless LCD projector, pro wireless projector, short throw projector, SVGA 3LCD Projector, optima projector, minibeam projector"
Note: keywords that you use to generate new ones are called seed keywords. The new keywords generated are called keyword ideas.
You can now again download it like you first did and use filter option to filter out the closest keywords to your main niche (LCD Projectors). Pick any amount (start with 10 keyword ideas) of new keyword ideas you would like to work on and save it somewhere (Notepad, ClipNote, etc).
After filtering, lookup your new keyword ideas in google search once more and observe what type of website appears in the result. Observe the competition, check the type of website (if they are eCommerce, blog, just a normal website).
Search for what keywords the websites in the first page are all ranking for with ahrefs, or other services you can find using google search. Also check their backlinks (what social media they are using, websites they add contributions to).
Study their post, and take note what is not included. Write your own unique post and add those things they are missing, and also share your website where they share theirs and even beyond.
If it's article the audience of that niche needs, give it to them. If it's videos, give it to them. If it's images, give it to them. Give them (the visitors) unique content in a clean and unique manner.
To get the long tail version of the new keyword ideas you generated earlier, use Keyword Shitter and dominate that niche.
And if you feel like you need to research deeper, simply keep repeating step 1 and 2. Don't forget to keep track of the Ad competition.
Comparing websites design in your niches should be one of your top priorities because you will get an idea of the best theme style or design to be used for your websites. With good websites theme, you will be able to trap visitors whose intention may be just to visit your website temporarily.
You can now proceed to the step of using any of the popular blogging platforms. Here is a list of free blogging platforms you can use for your website.

Keyword Research
He comes the second main part of this guide. You remember I am using LCD projectors as my niche. What I have to do here is put it up in google and check out the results. Now, like in the video, the websites that appeared in the result are authority sites (websites like Amazon, Ebay, CNET, etc. google the meaning of authority website).Authority sites are almost impossible to outrank, so if you find yourself in this spot, it's better to find another niche (remember that my the niche I selected is just for explanation).
